3rd Degree Domestic Assault, Cortland

DATE & TIME: 07-11-2017 / 1256

LOCATION: 200 Block of North Highway 77, Cortland, Nebraska

OFFENSE: 3rd Degree Domestic Assault

CASE #: 2017-3742

On Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at approximately 12:56 pm, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a domestic assault occurring in a parking lot of a business in Cortland, Nebraska.  Southeast Communications took information on the report, which was an ongoing physical assault by a male on a female.  The information from witnesses indicated the male was pushing, pulling, and repeatedly shoving the female against vehicles in the parking lot and that at one point he grabbed her by the throat.  The female walked away from the scene, however the male drove after her in a car and continued to yell at her, before both returned to the parking lot.

An investigator and a uniformed patrol deputy were dispatched to the call.  As the investigator arrived at the scene, Southeast Communications dispatched that the male left the scene as a passenger in a blue Honda and the female was leaving in a grey four door sedan.

The investigator radioed to the uniformed deputy that the victim was leaving eastbound on Apple toward Highway 77 and that he was following the blue Honda west on Apple Road out of Cortland.  A Nebraska State Patrol trooper was in the area and assisted by stopping the female victim before she left town and waited with her until the investigation was concluded.

The deputy and the investigator stopped the Honda near about a mile west of Cortland near Apple Lake Estates where the male suspect, 29-year-old Dana Clair Roberts, was found in the passenger seat.  He was brought back to Cortland where the investigation continued.

After interviews of the victim, suspect, and witnesses, it was determined that probable cause existed to arrest Dana Clair Roberts for third degree domestic assault.  He was advised he was under arrest and transported to the Gage County Detention Center where he was turned over to corrections officers for booking.  The victim was given the name and business card of the Gage County Victim Advocate for her to contact.
