Attempted Theft By Deception & Intimidation By Phone (Obscene Phone Call)

DATE & TIME: 04-09-2018 @ 13:44 hours

LOCATION: Wymore, Nebraska

OFFENSE: Attempted Theft By Deception & Intimidation By Phone (Obscene Phone Call)

CASE #: 2018-1516

A Wymore resident called the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and spoke with an investigator, reporting she received a scam phone call from the phone number 213-388-1516. The male on the other end of the call told her she had won $10,000.00 from the government for paying her taxes on time and not having a criminal record. She realized the call was an attempt to defraud her and told the male she was aware of the scam and she was not going to fall for his attempt to defraud her. She said the male then became verbally abusive toward her, stating he was going to find out where she lived and sexually assault her. She then hung up the phone and called the Gage County Sheriff’s Office to report the incident.

The victim did not lose any money from this incident, however she was urged to closely monitor her banking and financial accounts, as well as checking her mail for any fraudulent accounts that may have been opened in her name. The Wymore Police Department was notified of the call to the sheriff’s office investigator and an extra patrol watch was placed on her residence. There is no indication the suspect knows where the victim lives or he is located anywhere within the continental United States.

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office urges residents to use caution when dealing with unknown persons who call, e-mail, send mail to them, or have in person contact with them. Do not give out any personal, confidential or financial information. If you receive a suspicious call, immediately contact your local police department or call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak with an investigator.
