A resident of Adams, Nebraska called an investigator at the Gage County Sheriff’s Office to report he had received several calls over a few days from (360) 318-7326 with an automated type of message. On 03-01-2018 he called the number back and a male with an Arabic sounding accent advised him he was “Officer Marcus Brown #2563” with the Internal Revenue Service and he was trying to collect $5,860.00 in unpaid taxes from 2011-2016. The victim states the caller asked if he lived at a Colorado address, which was his previous address. 

The investigator confirmed with the victim he had not lost any money or sent any payments for this scam and also advised the resident there was not a warrant for his arrest. The resident stated he believed it was a scam and even after hanging up on the suspects, they called back several more times.

Anyone who receives a suspicious telephone call, e-mail, letter, or personal contact should not provide any personal, confidential, or financial information. If concerned, contact a family member, trusted associate or banker, or call the local police department or contact the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak with an investigator.
