Civil Matter / Out of State Tollway Fine

DATE & TIME: 02-14-2018 @ 11:01 am

LOCATION: Wymore, Nebraska

OFFENSE: Civil Matter / Out of State Tollway Fine

CASE #: 2018-0642

A Wymore resident contacted a Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigator with a question regarding a letter he had received demanding payment for a service he did not use and did not want. The investigator was provided with a copy of the bill, which was from the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA), a creation of the Texas Department of Transportation which manages 972 miles of toll road in north Texas, and determined the bill was a fine, issued basis of the NTTA having a camera system which captured a license plate image of a person who did not pay the fee at one of their tollbooths.

The investigator provided the Wymore resident with telephone numbers for the NTTA customer service and ombudsman, and advised him that, due to the wide variety of license plates in Nebraska, entering the wrong type of license plate, i.e. a “Farm” plates instead of a “commercial” plate, or entering the wrong sequence of numbers or county designator, could have caused his vehicle to be identified.

The Wymore resident called the North Texas Tollway Authority and after speaking with one of their representatives, was relieved of the fee, because the license plate in question was not for his vehicle and was not registered to him.

Anyone who receives a suspicious letter, phone call, e-mail, or personal contact should be wary of proceeding and seek advice from a trusted source or professional. If you need additional assistance or believe someone is trying to defraud you, call your local policed department or contact the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak with an investigator.
