Criminal Impersonation / Identity Theft

DATE & TIME: 05-04-2020 @ 8:27 am

LOCATION: Rural Beatrice

OFFENSE: Criminal Impersonation / Identity Theft

CASE #: 2020-1938

A resident of rural Beatrice reported to a Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigator that her credit card had been used by unknown person or persons at a home improvement store in Chicago and in Cicero, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago on April 4th, 2020. The Gage County resident will not be out any money, as the stores in Illinois will be responsible for the losses, however a report for criminal impersonation, colloquially referred to as identity theft, was taken by the investigator.  She was advised to contact her bank and other credit card companies, as well as the credit reporting agencies to alert them to this fraud. She was also directed to the Federal Trade Commission, a link to which can be found on the Gage County Sheriff’s Office website at

If you suspect you are the victim of a fraud, swindle, or scam, do not make any immediate payments and contact your local police department or call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak with an investigator.
