A resident of rural Pickrell, Nebraska reported to the Gage County Sheriff’s Office that his bank, which is based out of San Antonio, Texas, notified him that someone had attempted to open credit card accounts in his name on or about January 23, 2017. He stated the bank denied the credit cards and he has not lost any money from his accounts, however he is concerned about damage to his credit rating and future possible fraudulent credit activity.
A report for Criminal Impersonation, commonly known as Identity Theft, was taken by the Gage County Sheriff’s Office, since the victim has not lost any money. He was directed to the Gage County Sheriff’s Office website at http://www.gagecountysheriff.us/ and to go to the Public Awareness section and click on the “Fraud/ Identity Theft/Scams” section to obtain a link to the Federal Trade Commission website for additional reporting options and assistance for Identity Theft.
The Gage County Sheriff’s Office has taken numerous reports for Criminal Impersonation Identity Theft and fraudulent activity in the past two months. Residents are encouraged to never give personal or financial information to unknown persons, over the telephone, or to unsolicited persons or organizations over the internet.
