A resident of Wymore reported she received two telephone calls from an unidentified female claiming to be with the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) and threatening legal action against her if she did not call back.  The Wymore resident did not answer the telephone either time, however she had read of similar reports on the Gage County Sheriff’s Office website and realized this was a fraud or an attempted scam.  She did not give out any personal or financial information and has not lost any money from this incident.

The Wymore Police Department was contacted and consulted on this investigation.  At this time, there are no identifiable suspects.

The Gage County Sheriffs’ Office cautions residents about giving out personal or financial information over the telephone, particularly to unsolicited or unverified callers.  If you believe you are a victim of a scam, fraud, or attempted fraud, call your local police department or the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and request to speak with an investigator.
