Criminal Impersonation (Identity Theft)

DATE & TIME: 05-14-2018 @ 0823

LOCATION: Rural Beatrice

OFFENSE: Criminal Impersonation (Identity Theft)

CASE #: 2018-2204

A resident of rural Beatrice reported to a Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigator that someone used her PayPal credit card without her permission and opened a Wal-Mart credit card in her name. The resident states she believes the suspect is a friend she allowed to stay at her residence for a month while she served a jail sentence. When she was released from jail, the friend had moved out. The victim became aware of the identity theft when PayPal sent her a letter in the mail asking if she had changed her address.

The victim was referred to the Beatrice Police Department for investigation of the Wal-Mart credit card, since that occurred within the city limits of Beatrice.

Anyone who believes they are the victim of identity theft or other fraud crimes should contact their local police department or call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak with an investigator.
