OFFENSE: Escapee apprehended after one vehicle rollover accident

CASE: 2017-5672

At approximately 4:15 pm on Saturday October 14th, Southeast Communications dispatched Gage County Deputies to the Nebraska/Kansas State Line in reference two inmates who had escaped from the Marshall County Jail. It was reported that the jail was on fire, shots had been fired, and the escapees had stolen a gold colored pickup at gunpoint.  Deputies were advised that Kansas authorities were currently pursuing the pickup northbound on US Highway 77, approaching the Kansas/Nebraska State Line, and the escapees were possibly armed with shotguns.

The pursuit ended near Highway 77 and W. Sycamore Road when the pickup lost control turning west onto W. Sycamore, rolling over two or more times.  The driver/escapee was taken into custody by Kansas authorities and turned over to Gage County Deputies.

Kansas authorities informed deputies that the other escapee had been apprehended in Marysville and no injuries had been reported.

After receiving medical clearance at the Beatrice Community Hospital, the escapee was transported to and lodged at the Gage County Detention Center.

The traffic accident was investigated by the Nebraska State Patrol with additional charges pending.

The escape investigation will be handled by the Kansas Bureau of Investigations.
