OFFENSE: Fake Check Scam
CASE #: 2018-1174
A resident of Blue Springs reported to a Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigator she had received an e-mail, she believes that originated through a Facebook ad, from Kiju Organic, a Toronto based company, that stated she could make $400.00 per week by having an adhesive advertisement placed on her vehicle. She was mailed a check from Iglesias Law, IOLTA Real Estate, 146 Wyllys St, Hartford, Connecticut for $1,750.00 and told she would use $1,200.00 of that to pay for the installation of an advertisement on the door of her vehicle and she could keep the rest.
She said before she cashed the check, she had several text message conversations with someone claiming to represent the company. On the day the ad installation was to occur, she was told the installer would not come down without being paid first and she was supposed to send a check to the installer. She did not send a check or make any payment and is not out any money. The check sent to her from Iglesias Law was not a valid check.
