Fatality Accident at SW 61st and West Hoyt Road

DATE & TIME: December 3, 2016 @ 0034 hours          

LOCATION: Southwest 61^st and West Hoyt Road                            

OFFENSE: Single Vehicle Fatality Accident

On December 3, 2016 at approximately 0034 hours, the Gage County Sheriff's Office, Beatrice Rural Fire and Rescue, Beatrice Rescue, and the Nebraska State Patrol were dispatched to a single vehicle fatality accident at the T-intersection of Southwest 61^st Road and West Hoyt Road.

An investigation at the scene determined that a black 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling northbound on Southwest 61^st Road when it approached the T-intersection at West Hoyt Road. The Tahoe failed to stop at the intersection and collided head on at a high rate of speed with a tall embankment on the north side of the intersection.

First responders to the accident attempted life saving measures on the driver who was trapped inside the vehicle. The driver of the Tahoe, 36 year old Kevin P. Patterson of Beatrice, Nebraska was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident. Extrication was utilized to help get Patterson out of the vehicle.  

Patterson was wearing his seat belt and the air bags in the vehicle deployed throughout the vehicle. Inattention is believed to be a factor in the accident and alcohol use is unknown at this time. A blood draw was completed and an autopsy will not be completed.

The accident is still under investigation pending results of the blood draw.
