DATE & TIME: 10-18-15 06:47

LOCATION: Hwy 136 between S 80th and S 94th Road

OFFENSE:  Fatality Accident

CASE #:2015-5075

On 10-18-15 at around 06:47, the Gage County Sheriff's Office, Beatrice Rural Fire and Rescue, Beatrice Rescue, and the Nebraska State Patrol were dispatched to a two vehicle fatality accident on Highway 136 west of S 94th Road. An investigation at the scene determined that a green 2014  4 door Chevrolet Spark was traveling eastbound on Highway 136 between S 80th and S 94th Road when it struck a deer, disabling the vehicle in the roadway and damaging the lights on the front of the vehicle. The occupants of the Spark, including 59 year old Bonnie Goings of Colorado Springs Colorado, exited the vehicle. A second motorist arrived at the scene and pulled onto the north shoulder of the roadway to render assistance.  A third vehicle, a maroon 1996 Buick Regal 4 door driven by 42 year old Johnna Neumann of Filley, was traveling westbound on Highway 136. As Ms. Neumann approached the area she observed the vehicle on the shoulder of the road. She moved to the left in an attempt to give the vehicle parked on the shoulder of the road more room. Due to the damage to the Spark’s lights, Ms. Neumann did not see it in the roadway. The Buick Ms. Neumann was driving collided with the Spark, pushing it off of the roadway into the south ditch. During the collision, Ms. Goings became trapped under the Spark. Ms. Goings was pronounced dead at the scene. Five other persons that had been traveling with Ms. Goings in the Spark were transported from the scene by ground ambulance for unknown injuries.

Ms. Neumann was wearing occupant protection and the air bags in the vehicle she was driving did deploy. Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have been a factor.

The accident is still under investigation.
