On Saturday, January 06, 2018, at about 4:08 p.m., Gage County Deputies, Sandersfeld, Chavez, and Ernst responded to a disturbance at 202 2nd Avenue in Virginia.
At about 4:11 p.m., while responding from Liberty, Sandersfeld initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle clocked at 91 miles per hour and suspected of being involved in the disturbance.
The vehicle promptly fled southbound on S. 162nd Road from E. Plum to E. Sage, then from E. Sage to Wells Street in Liberty where the driver lost control , sliding into a ditch. Immediately after going into the ditch, the driver exited the vehicle and ran east through yards.
Around 4:15 p.m., the driver was located by Deputy Sandersfeld in a backyard hiding inside a small metal storage shed and taken into custody.
The 24 year old driver, Devon Kagy of Virginia, was transported to the Beatrice Community Hospital Emergency Department after complaining of a sore leg. After receiving a medical clearance, Kagy was transported to the Gage County Detention Facility, where he was lodged on numerous charges. Sheriff Millard “Gus” Gustafson #903
