High Speed Pursuit / Stolen Vehicle

DATE & TIME: April 20, 2015 @ 1912 Hours

LOCATION: Beatrice and Rural Gage County

OFFENSE: High Speed Pursuit and Stolen Vehicle

CASE #: 2015-1822

DETAILS: On April 20, 2015 at approximately 1912 Hours, the Beatrice Police Department was dispatched to the south city limits in reference to a vehicle complaint of an erratic driver traveling at a high rate of speed north on US Highway 77 and near Locust Road. The concerned citizen estimated the vehicle speeds as 100-110 MPH and they had to go onto to the shoulder to avoid a collision. The concerned citizen described the vehicle as a black Mercedes Benz.

Beatrice Police Officers located the vehicle around 6th and Perkins Street in Beatrice and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated by the Beatrice Police Department near that location. The Beatrice Police Department was able to obtain a vehicle license plate of 3-B2791. Due to the high speeds and reckless driving of the vehicle, the officers involved in the pursuit were unable to keep up with the vehicle and the vehicle was lost for a short time around 19th and Market Street.

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle traveling north on 25th Street near Lincoln Street. The Sheriff’s Office began attempting to catch the vehicle as it was traveling at a high rate of speed north bound on 26th from Lincoln Street. The Sheriff’s Office was able to get within ½ a mile of the vehicle as it was traveling east on Hoyt Road outside the city limits of Beatrice. The Sheriff’s Office estimated the speeds on Hoyt Road to be approximately 90-100 MPH on the gravel. Due to the road conditions, the Sheriff’s Office was unable to catch the vehicle at those high speeds and a visual was lost of the vehicle.

At approximately 1925 Hours, an officer with the Beatrice Police Department located the vehicle traveling south on South 66th Road from Highway 136 and he observed the vehicle continue at a high rate of speed and not stop at the stop sign as it crossed Highway 136. The vehicle was pursued again south on South 66th Road by both the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and the Beatrice Police Department but was able to evade arrest due to the extremely high speeds on the gravel road. A visual of the vehicle was lost around the area of South 80th and Linden Road.

The owner of the vehicle contacted the Gage County Sheriff’s Office a short time later and reported the vehicle as stolen from Blue Springs. The Sheriff’s Office does have a person of interest and is asking for anyone with the identity of driver to contact the Gage County Sheriff’s Office at 402-223-5222 or Gage County Crime Stoppers at 402-228-4343.
