Accident - Highway 77 and Southwest 2nd Road

On March 5, 2018, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office, Clatonia Fire and Rescue and Cortland Fire and Rescue, responded to US Highway 77 and Southwest 2nd Road in reference to an injury accident involving cattle in the roadway.

After an accident investigation was completed, it was determined that Paul R. Bade, of Hickman, Nebraska, was driving his Ford Taurus westbound on US Highway 77 and collided with several head of cattle that were on the highway just east of Southwest 2nd Road. The collision caused extensive damage to the vehicle.

Bade was transported by Clatonia Rescue to Bryan LGH West in Lincoln Nebraska for treatment of neck and head injuries. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

US Highway 77 was closed to all northbound and southbound traffic for approximately one hour while crews worked on removing debris from the highway and an investigation could be completed. The Nebraska State Patrol assisted with diverting southbound traffic eastbound on East State Highway 41.

Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, seat belt use is unknown at this time and airbags did deploy in the vehicle.
