DATE & TIME: 04-17-2020 @ 10:29 am

LOCATION: Suburban Beatrice

OFFENSE: Identity Theft / Criminal Impersonation

CASE #: 2020-1713

A resident of suburban Beatrice notified the Gage County Sheriff’s Office that she had become a victim of criminal impersonation, colloquially referred to as identity theft. An unknown suspect in the Modesto, California area had accessed her bank account online for a monetary transaction.  At the time of this report, the bank has absorbed any monetary loss and the victim has not suffered any fiduciary loss.

An investigator for the sheriff’s office contacted the victim for follow-up and confirmed she had not suffered any loss. She is also working with fraud investigators from her banks and she filed an online report with the Federal Trade Commission (link is on the Gage County Sheriff’s Office website at http://www.gagecountysheriff.us/fraud ).

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office urges residents to always be alert for fraud, dishonest schemes, cons, and other scams targeting unsuspecting victims. Contact your local police department or call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak with an investigator if you are a victim of a scam.
