Injury Accident results in Fail to Yield Citation

DATE & TIME: 07-20-15 17:37

LOCATION: SW 58th and Dogwood Road

OFFENSE: Injury Accident/ Failure to Yield Right of Way

CASE #: 2015-3363

On 07-20-15 around 1737 hours, the Gage County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a two vehicle injury accident at the intersection of SW 58th and Dogwood Road. When the Deputy arrived on scene, they were advised that a 16 year old passenger in one of the vehicles was experiencing back pain. Beatrice Fire and Rescue was dispatched to assess her condition. She was later transported from the scene by a parent to a medical facility for unknown injuries.

An investigation conducted at the scene indicated that a red 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche, driven by 16 year old Benjamin Gascon of Beatrice, was traveling westbound on Dogwood Road approaching SW 58th Road. The intersection at that location has stop signs for westbound and eastbound traffic. The red Avalanche continued westbound into the intersection, where it was struck by a white 2012 Nissan Frontier pickup truck, driven by 46 year old Donald Rejcha of Hallam, which was traveling northbound on SW 58th Road.

Mr. Gascon was issued a citation for failure to yield right of way to a vehicle.

Occupant protection was in use in both vehicles. Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have been a factor.
