Internet Scam

DATE & TIME: 03-21-2018 @ 1407

LOCATION: Odell, Nebraska

OFFENSE: Internet Scam

CASE #: 2018-1193

A resident of Odell called a Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigator and reported her husband had been on Craigslist trying to sell a skid loader bucket. He was contacted via text message by someone who had viewed the skid loader and stated they wanted to purchase it. The suspect sent two parcels via United States Postal Service, one which included a fraudulent check which did not have a bank routing number.

The victim did not lose any money and did not ship out or lose possession of the skid loader. She stated the person sending the text messages claimed his name was “Scott Thomas”.

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office urges residents to use caution in financial matters, whether in person, via the Internet, US mail, or on the telephone. Additionally, if a sale is made outside of an Internet company’s website, they may not provide assistance or cover any losses.

Anyone receiving a fraudulent call, e-mail, personal contact, or postal package should notify their local police department or call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak with an investigator.
