LOCATION: Rural Filley, Nebraska
OFFENSE: IRS Scam
CASE #: 2018-3642
A resident of rural Filley, Nebraska called a Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigator and informed him she had received a telephone call on her landline and the person left a message stating “they had done an audit on her tax filing and found something she was trying to hide from the federal government.” and to call back to 425-222-1128, but did not identify themselves. The victim had received scam phone calls before, but those were on her cell phone.
She did not lose any money and was advised to monitor her financial and credit accounts. The investigator also suggested she notify the bank of the attempt to scam her. When the investigator called the number back, a male with an East Indian accent answered “IRS” and when the investigator identified himself, the suspect hung up.
The Gage County Sheriff’s Office has noted an increased trend in scam phone calls recently, sometimes the victims receive several phone calls a day. Anyone who receives a suspicious phone call may call their local police department or call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak with an investigator.
