IRS Scam Phone Call

A resident of Wymore, Nebraska called the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and notified an investigator he had received an automated phone call message from someone at phone number 360-347-1812 claiming they were with the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) and demanded he call them back within 24 hours. The resident recognized immediately this was a scam and did not call the person back or provide any personal, financial, or confidential information to the suspect. The investigator asked if the message had used his name or other identifying information and the resident said it was a generic message.

The Wymore Police Department was notified of the incident for their records and investigation.

The Internal Revenue Service does not call citizens demanding payment. Correspondence from an IRS office will be sent to the address of the taxpayer and will provide instructions on contacting them. If anyone receives a suspicious or fraudulent phone call, e-mail, letter, or interaction in person, do not provide any personal, confidential, or financial information. Contact your local police department or call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak with an investigator.
