LOCATION: Rural Beatrice
OFFENSE: IRS Scam Phone Call
CASE #: 2018-1735
A resident of rural Beatrice called the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and reported to an investigator she had received a phone message on her answering machine from a male claiming to be from the IRS (Internal Revenue Service). The message told her to call back to 315-888-0060 or a warrant would be issued for her arrest. She recognized this as a scam and did not call the number back. She did not lose any money and does not believe they have any of her personal, financial, or confidential information.
The Internal Revenue Service does not call taxpayers, communication is through US mail or if you call one of the IRS offices. This was an attempt to elicit money, personal, or confidential, or bank accounts from the suspect, which would then be used to conduct further fraud.
Anyone who receives a suspicious phone call, e-mail, letter, or personal contact should not provide any information or return the communication. Report the incident immediately to the local police department or call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak with an investigator.
