OFFENSE: Leaving the Scene of Accident

On July 3, 2017 at approximately 1500 hours, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office received information that John Voitus 46 years of age of Firth, NE, had struck a railroad crossing gate near South 148th Road on East Highway 41 near Adams, NE, with his 2004 Ford Escape. The information received also indicated Voitus failed to report this accident to Law Enforcement and left the scene. The Gage County Sheriff’s Office confirmed with Southeast Communications that there were no reports of an accident in this area.
Earlier in the day on 07/03/2017 at approximately 0900 hours, Gage County Deputies were advised by Southeast Communications that Burlington Northern Santa Fe would be repairing a damaged crossing gate at this area, but it was not reported of how the damage occurred. This information is generally forwarded to Southeast Communications for the purposes of any traffic issues that may arise during the time of the repair work.
John Voitus was located at his residence in Firth, NE with the assistance of the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office and was cited for Leaving the Scene of an Accident. While at the residence, Deputies observed damage to the windshield and hood of the 2004 Ford Escape registered to Voitus.
This was a one vehicle non-injury accident. Voitus reported seatbelt restraints were in use. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor.
