CASE #: 2020-2921

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a “Phishing” e-mail scam sent to employees at a business in Blue Springs. The e-mail notified the recipient that “a vehicle registered to your name was observed by a stationary traffic camera going more than two times the legal speed limit.” The e-mail continued with some fabricated information and stated the fine was $275.00 and demanded payment by July 10, 2020.

Phishing is an attempt to obtain personal or financial information by sending an electronic communication requesting a response. That information is then used by the suspect for nefarious and criminal acts such as fraud, identity theft, and extortion.
