DATE & TIME: Friday October 28, 2016

LOCATION: 911 N. 6th St. Beatrice, NE

OFFENSE: Two Counts of Delivery of a Controlled Substance; Possession of Marijuana, More than 1 lb.; Possession of a Controlled Substance

CASE #: 2016-4913

On October 28, 2016 at approximately 8:45 PM, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office along with assistance from the Nebraska State Patrol Drug Unit and Beatrice Police Department, conducted a controlled buy of marijuana and Opana, which is a Schedule II pain medication.

A confidential informant for the Gage County Sheriff’s Office had previously arranged to make a purchase of 1 lb. of marijuana and 81 Opana pills from Jason L. Tyler, age of 50 of Montague, MI for $4,500.  The confidential informant successfully made the purchase of the 1 lb. of marijuana and 81 Opana pills on Friday night at 911 N. 6th St. in Beatrice.  Following the purchase, Tyler was taken into custody without incident.  Upon being arrested, Tyler was found in possession of the $4,500 of Sheriff’s Office “buy money”.  The 1 lb. of marijuana and 81 Opana pills were recovered in close proximity.  Tyler also consented to a search of his vehicle and when deputies searched Tyler’s vehicle, they located 32.5 pills of Alprazolam, which is a Schedule IV controlled substance.  The Alprazolam pills were in a pill bottle that did not belong to Tyler.  Tyler was arrested for Two Counts of Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana, More than 1lb. and Possession of a Controlled Substance.  Tyler was lodged in the Gage County Detention Center.

The controlled buy was the result of an investigation that lasted several months, which began after law enforcement received numerous reports that Tyler was traveling from Michigan to Beatrice for the purpose of selling controlled substances.

Investigators also obtained evidence which led them to believe that Tyler was in possession of a large amount of marijuana at his residence in Michigan.  Investigators coordinated an investigation with narcotics task force officers in Michigan which resulted in a search warrant being executed on Tyler’s residence in Michigan.  During the search, officers located an estimated 20 lbs. of marijuana in Tyler’s residence along with harvested marijuana plants that were going through the drying process.  Tyler was allowed to legally grow marijuana in Michigan but he appeared to not be in compliance with the regulations regarding marijuana grow operations under Michigan law.  Criminal charges for Tyler are pending in Michigan.
