Possession of Methamphetamine, Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, Driving Under Suspension

DATE & TIME: 05-09-2019 @ 15:41

LOCATION: South 82nd Road / East Pickrell Road

OFFENSE: Possession of Methamphetamine, Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, Driving Under Suspension

CASE #: 2019-2374

A Gage County Sheriff’s Office deputy was on patrol in a rural area about six miles east of Pickrell and two miles north of Zion Lutheran Church when he observed a large U-Haul truck stopped in a rural area on the side of South 82nd Road between East Pickrell Road and East Dogwood Road.

When the deputy made contact with the driver, 29-year-old Devon J. Cooper, he observed the vehicle was in drive and Cooper was disoriented, did not know where he was, and had no idea how he got there. The deputy also observed a small baggie with a white substance in Cooper’s lap. The deputy recognized the item as a controlled substance and seized it, field testing it with a positive result for methamphetamine.

Cooper was placed under arrest for possession of methamphetamine, driving under suspension, and driving under the influence of drugs. The U-Haul truck, which had a gross vehicle weight of 22,000 pounds, was towed from the scene. It had recently been rented in Beatrice by another person associated with Cooper.

The investigation is ongoing.
