A Beatrice resident who lives near the Gage County Sheriffs’ Office stopped in and reported an attempted scam to a sheriff’s office investigator. She states she received a phone call from an “unknown” number and a male with a Hispanic accents told her he was a private investigator for ACT Legal Services working in Beatrice and had to deliver a summons to her or she would be arrested. He told her he had been to her house last night and again this morning, but wanted her address. She was told to call 888-340-9683 reference (fake) case number 2996185. She said he called her five times in an hour and she wanted to make a report.
The investigator verified the victim had not lost any money then urged her to monitor her financial accounts and notify her banking institution so they could assist in protecting her assets.
The Beatrice Police Department was notified of the report to the sheriff’s office for their records.
The Gage County Sheriff’s Office urges residents to use caution and discretion when dealing with situations on the phone, online, through the mail, or in person. Do not give out any personal, confidential, or financial information to unknown persons. Do not be intimidated by pressure tactics or threats. Call your local police department or call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak with an investigator for assistance.
