RX Drug Take-Back Drop Box

DATE: July 13, 2016

LOCATION: Gage County Sheriff’s Office

TOPIC: RX Drug Take-Back Drop Box

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office, along with the help of the Gage County M.A.P.S. program, has installed a RX Take-Back Drop Box at the Gage County Sheriff’s Office in the main lobby. The RX Drop Box gives the public the opportunity to safely dispose of any unwanted or expired prescription medications and over-the-counter medications 365 days a year.

The drop box will be available to the public starting July 13, 2016 and is available 24 hours a day. Anyone wishing to safely dispose of any unused or expired medication between the hours of 5:00 PM and 8:00 AM Monday thru Friday or Saturday or Sunday need to ring the door bell and a corrections officer will let you into the lobby to utilize the drop box. Just inform the Corrections Officer during these times that you wish to utilize the Drug Take-Back Drop Box. Although the Drop Box does not accept needles, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office does have a needle crusher and will provide its service to the public for anyone who wishes to dispose of any used/unused needles. We do ask that the needles be capped if you would like us to help you dispose of them.

Prescription medication abuse is a growing problem in our society. Many addicts begin their addiction in their family’s medication cabinet without the family member even knowing until it is too late. The Gage County Sheriff’s Office and Gage County M.A.P.S. want to do everything possible to help combat this growing problem. You can also help combat this problem by disposing of your unwanted or unused medication safely in this drop-box.

If anyone has any questions concerning the RX Take Back Drop Box they can contact Sergeant Brandon Schley #9035 at 402-223-5222 EXT. 209 or email him at bs9035@gcsone.us. The Gage County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Gage County M.A.P.S. Program in particular Christina Lyons for helping us find the funding to provide this necessary and important essential service to the community.
