LOCATION: Blue Springs, Nebraska
OFFENSE: Scam Phone Call
CASE #: 2018-0419
A resident of the Blue Springs area contacted the Gage County Sheriff’s Office regarding a suspicious phone call she had received from a male with a foreign accent who was asking for a donation to the police and sheriff’s departments. The caller asked for a small donation of $5.00 to $25.00 and when the victim sounded like she might be willing to donate, the suspect told her to wait and he would get his supervisor on the phone. A few moments later a person who sounded suspiciously like the original caller, asked her for her credit card number. She declined to give her credit card number over the phone and hung up.
A Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigator confirmed with the reporting person they had not lost any money or given out any personal, financial, or confidential information.
Residents are urged to exercise caution when dealing with solicitations, whether they are over the phone, via e-mail, in person, or through the U.S. mail. Giving out personal, financial, or confidential information to unknown persons can lead to financial loss, identity theft, and credit issues. Anyone who receives a suspicious phone call or contact should not give out any information and immediately contact their local police department or call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak with an investigator.
