Possible Scam Phone Calls

DATE & TIME:            06-29-2017 /1441

LOCATION:                 Beatrice and Gage County

OFFENSE:                   Possible Scam Phone Calls

CASE #:                        2017-3441

A resident of Beatrice called the Gage County Sheriff’s Office to report he received a suspicious telephone call.  Later a friend received a telephone call from the same phone number with a “223” prefix and the caller ID on his landline phone stated the call was coming from “County Offices”. Neither he nor his friend answered the call, however he checked the phone listings for Gage County Offices and none of them had the final four numbers that showed up on his caller ID.  He states he called the number back and a recorded voice stated the phone number was no longer in service.  The citizen stated he did not give out any personal information and has not suffered any monetary loss from this incident.

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office cautions residents against answering telephone calls from unknown telephone numbers.  If the call is for legitimate purposes, the caller will leave a message and a phone number to call them back. There have been numerous incidents recently, both in Beatrice and Gage County, of people who have fallen victim to telephone scams/fraud or internet fraud.  Citizens are encouraged to call the local police department if they believe they are being scammed or to call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and request to speak with an investigator.
