Scams / Fraud

DATE & TIME: 03-20-2020 @ 11:00

LOCATION: Beatrice and Gage County

OFFENSE: Scams / Fraud

CASE #: 2020-1353

Several residents have contacted the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies to report scams and attempted fraud. Among the types of scams people are receiving are automated telephone messages from suspects claiming to be with the Social Security administration stating they have a warrant for their arrest due to fraudulent activity on their social security accounts. The suspect then threatens the victim to call back or be arrested. When the person calls back, they are not contacting a government agency, but are told they have a warrant for their arrest, but they can cancel the warrant by paying a fine, bond, or other such mulct.

The Social Security Administration will not call a person, rather they will contact you via mail. Do not provide any information to these persons over the telephone.  If you believe you are being scammed, contact your local police department or call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak with an investigator.
