Search Warrant and Arrest

DATE & TIME: 06-28-2018 @ 1900

LOCATION: 12776 East Sage Road

OFFENSE: Search Warrant and Arrest

CASE #: 2018-3107

On Thursday, June 28, 2018 Gage County Sheriff’s Office deputies and investigators, with the assistance of an available trooper from the Nebraska State Patrol, executed a search warrant on a property associated with 46-year-old Shawn D. Huntington at 12776 East Sage outside of Barneston and Liberty, Nebraska. An investigator for the sheriff’s office had been conducting numerous related investigations involving Huntington and obtained a search warrant to recover stolen property at that location. Shawn Huntington, if at the location, was also to be arrested based on evidence obtained during this and other investigations.

The deputies and investigators began serving the search warrant and made contact with Shawn Huntington in a small shed north of the main residence. The shed was being used by Shawn Huntington as a living quarters and workshop. When directed to come outside, Huntington initially refused to comply, then took off on foot from the shed, running between two buildings, past several piles of junk and equipment, and was caught after a brief foot pursuit about 200 feet from the shed.

After Shawn Huntington was in custody, he was transported to the Gage County Detention Center by a Gage County Sheriff’s Office deputy and booked into the jail, and the deputies and investigators began executing the search warrant, locating several stolen items, which included tools, tool accessories, and a stolen Polaris All-Terrain Vehicle. The recovered items were placed into Gage County Sheriff’s Office evidence locations.

As the search continued a homemade explosive device was located in a vehicle used by Shawn Huntington. It was unknown if the device was to be used as a deterrent, booby trap, or for other reasons. The Nebraska State Patrol Bomb Squad was contacted to handle the explosive device.

The investigation has cleared several burglary and theft cases in the southeast part of Gage County and elsewhere. The investigation is still ongoing by Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigators.

The landowner was cooperative with deputies and investigators during the execution of the search warrant. Anyone with additional information regarding this case should contact the Gage County Sheriff’s Office at 402-223-5222.
