Selective Traffic Enforcement

DATE & TIME: 06-05-2019

LOCATION: Cortland

OFFENSE: Selective Traffic Enforcement

The Gage County Sheriffs Office has been awarded a "mini-grant" from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety to conduct selective traffic enforcement June 9th - 22nd, 2019 on Highway 77 in Cortland. The sheriffs office has received numerous complaints from residents about vehicles speeding through town above the posted 45 mile per hour speed limit. The sheriffs office has also investigated accidents on that portion of Highway 77, including serious injury accidents, in addition to the complaints of speeding.

Deputies will conduct the enforcement in marked patrol vehicles between the hours of 7:00 am and 7:00 pm during the enforcement period. Gage County deputies on regular road patrol will augment the selective enforcement work and conduct additional traffic enforcement before and after the scheduled enforcement hours.

The purpose of this enforcement grant is to reduce accidents, increase driver safety, and educate the motoring public on the reduced speed limit in the Cortland city limits. The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety will reimburse the Gage County Sheriffs Office for the wages of the deputies working the min-grant.
