Semi/Vehicle accident on US Highway 77

DATE & TIME: 09-22-17 at 1520 hours     

LOCATION: 18550 US Hwy 77               

OFFENSE: Traffic Accident               

CASE #: 2017-5304               

On Sept 22, 2017 there was a two vehicle accident involving a semi with trailer and a Jeep Compass.  Both vehicles were traveling north on Hwy 77 near the truck stop on Hwy 77.  The semi which was driving by George Scott DOB 10-28-75 was turning into the north driveway of the truck stop. Scott turned his blinker on and slowed down to make the turn.  George Weirs DOB 04-14-36 driving the Compass was behind the semi did not notice it slowing down to make the turn and run into the back of the semi. The semi continued into the lot and stopped.

The accident was investigated by the Gage County Sheriff’s Office assisted by Beatrice Rural fire and Rescue and Beatrice Fire and Rescue. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts, airs bags went off in the Compass.  Alcohol was not a factor.  Weirs was transported to Beatrice Hospital with minor injuries.
