Sex Offender Registration Violation

An investigator from the Gage County Sheriff’s Office received several anonymous telephone tips that Jeremy Lynn Vater, age 34, had moved to Beatrice and failed to provide the Gage County Sheriff’s Office with proper information regarding his status as a registered sex offender.

As the investigator began to gather information related to this case, an officer with the Oklahoma Department of Probation and Parole contacted the Gage County Sheriff’s Office regarding Vater who had just recently been released from being incarcerated there. The Oklahoma officer forwarded information that Jeremy Lynn Vater had warrants from Pottawattamie County, Iowa, for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender and a drug related probation violation.

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigator checked Jeremy Lynn Vater’s Beatrice address of 905 Market Street as part of the investigation and returned to the Sheriff’s Office to complete further investigation. Upon arriving at the Sheriff’s Office, the investigator was informed that Jeremy Lynn Vater was in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office and was there to visit his brother who was in the Gage County jail.

The investigator confirmed the warrant through Southeast Communications and, with the assistance of a uniformed deputy, took Jeremy Lynn Vater into custody on the warrants from Iowa. Vater was booked into the Gage County Detention Center to await posting bond or extradition to Iowa.
