DATE & TIME: 04-09-2019  @ 16:58

LOCATION: 312 North 10th Street, Wymore

OFFENSE: Sex Offender Registration Act Violation / Arrest

CASE #: 2019-1575

In early April 2019, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigated a violation of the Nebraska Sex Offender Registration Act (SORA) by 71-year-old Gregory Lauby of Wymore, Nebraska. Lauby has been designated as a lifetime registrant by the Nebraska State Patrol and is required to report changes of personal information to the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and to verify the information reported to the sheriff’s office quarterly.

Gregory Lauby was required to report, in person, sometime in March 2019, to the Gage County Sheriff’s Office in Beatrice to verify his SORA information. On April 1, 2019, investigators with the Gage County Sheriff’s Office were notified by the Nebraska State Patrol that Gregory Lauby had not verified his information as required by law.

An investigation was initiated and investigators obtained a felony arrest warrant for him for failure to verify his information as a registered sex offender. Mr. Lauby, who is on probation, was ordered by his probation officer to surrender to the sheriff’s office, however after several hours he had not shown up to surrender.

A Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigator and a Special Services deputy contacted the incoming Wymore police chief, Tony Shepardson, of the felony warrant and asked for an officer from the Wymore Police Department to go to the house and arrest Gregory Lauby.  Shepardson was working for the police department at the time and went to Lauby’s house at 312 North 10th Street and placed him under arrest without incident.  A lieutenant from the Wymore Police Department then transported Lauby to the Gage County Detention Center where he was booked into the jail on the warrant.
