OFFENSE: Sex Offender Registration Act Violation / Arrest
CASE #: 2020-0821
On Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at approximately 8:02 am, 29-year-old Nathan Shane Vanwey, a registered sex offender, was arrested by a Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigator and a Gage County Sheriff’s Office deputy for failure to verify his status as a transient sex offender in the Beatrice area.
Vanwey had reported his residence as transient in Beatrice on January 14, 2020, indicating he did not have a permanent or temporary address in Beatrice and did not stay at the same location more than two times in the past month. He was required to verify that status with the Gage County Sheriff’s Office within the next thirty days, but failed to do so. A K-9 officer for the Beatrice Police Department provided information to the sheriff’s office investigator regarding Vanwey moving to Beatrice prior to his registering his transient status.
The reporting procedure takes 5-10 minutes to complete and there is no charge to the offender for the registration.
The Nebraska State Patrol notified the Gage County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, 02-14-2020, that Vanwey was in violation for failure to update his status. He has a prior conviction for failure to report/update his Nebraska Sex Offender Registry information, making this arrest a class IIA felony.
