OFFENSE: Violation of the Sex Offender Registration Act
CASE #: 2016-6164
Investigators with the Gage County Sheriff’s Office arrested Dusty Gene Mayhew, 50, of Wymore, Nebraska for violation of the Sex Offender Registration Act.
On Monday, 11-14-2016, a deputy from the Gage County Sheriff’s Office made a traffic stop at Highway 77 and Locust Road, south of Beatrice. When the patrol deputy radioed Southeast Communication for a radio check on the driver, Dusty Gene Mayhew, it was determined that Mayhew’s driver’s license was suspended. The deputy arrested Dusty Gene Mayhew for driving under suspension and brought him to the Gage County Detention Center to be booked on the charge of driving under suspension.
An investigator for the Gage County Sheriff’s Office had been monitoring the radio communication about the traffic stop and recognized Dusty Gene Mayhew as a person required to report as a registered sex offender. The investigator checked the sex offender registration files and determined Mayhew had not listed the vehicle he was operating with the sheriff’s office, as required under the Nebraska Sex Offender Registration Act.
The investigator called the Wymore Police Department and received information that Dusty Gene Mayhew had been driving the vehicle he had been stopped in for several weeks.
While Mayhew was being booked into jail on the driving under suspension charge at the Gage County Detention Center, the investigator arrested Dusty Gene Mayhew for the charge of violation of the Sex Offender Registration Act and turned him back over to the corrections officers.
