LOCATION: Beatrice, Nebraska
OFFENSE: Social Security Scam
CASE #: 2018-4023
A Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigator was notified by a Beatrice resident that she had received an automated or “robo” type call from 210-361-2772 and the caller left a message for her that there had been some criminal activity associated with her social security number. She did not provide any personal, financial, or confidential information to the suspects and does not believe they used her name or social security number when they called her.
The investigator assured the victim that the social security administration does not call, or even have her phone number, to investigate any type of social security fraud. Since she did not provide any personal, financial, or confidential information and did not believe she had lost any money, she was advised to check her bank account and monitor her mail for the next few months to check for fraudulent accounts that may have been opened in her name.
The investigator advised her to notify her financial institution of the situation. The Beatrice Police Department was notified of the report to the sheriff’s office for their records.
The Gage County Sheriff’s Office cautions residents about giving out personal, financial, or confidential information to unknown persons. If you receive a scam phone call, you may notify your local police department or call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and speak with an investigator.
