Third Degree Assault

Deputies at the Gage County Fairgrounds were notified of a fight in the center of the midway. When they arrived, they were informed by an off-duty corrections officer that an unknown male had assaulted another male near the center of the midway. The corrections officer and her husband broke up the fight, however the aggressor and suspect in the assault, fled the scene.

An investigator from the sheriff’s office took over the investigation and obtained information from the victim, including the identity of the suspect.

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office K-9 deputy located the suspect a short time later and the investigator responded to that location and identified the suspect, who then admitted to being involved in the altercation.

The investigator issued a citation for third degree assault to nineteen-year-old Austin Reed. Due to the citation being related to an assault, Reed was banned from the fairgrounds. The victim did not require any medical attention.
