Two vehicle injury accident

DATE & TIME: December 8, 2017 at approximately 1000 hours      

LOCATION: US Highway 77 & Airpark Road, Beatrice, NE             

OFFENSE: Two vehicle injury accident

On 12/08/17 at approximately 1000 hours, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office was asked by the Beatrice Police Department to conduct an accident investigation involving Beatrice Police Captain Gerald Lamkin, 33 years of age of Beatrice, NE. Lamkin was traveling northbound on US Highway 77 in a marked 2014 Ford Taurus patrol unit. He entered the west turning lane at Airpark Road where he would make a left turn after the traffic signal displayed a green arrow. While proceeding through the intersection, his vehicle was struck by a southbound 2015 Ford Taurus driven by Russell Hefner, 58 years of age of Lindsborg, KS. Hefner disregarded the traffic signal, which was reported by a witness, to be red in color. Lamkin was transported to the Beatrice Community Hospital by Beatrice Fire and Rescue for minor injuries and Hefner was not injured in the accident. Hefner was issued a citation for violation of a traffic signal. 

Both individual were wearing seatbelts.
