DATE & TIME:           02-08-2016 / 11:11 am

LOCATION:       208 North First Street/ Wymore, Nebraska

OFFENSE:          Violation of the Sex Offender Registry Act

CASE #:              2016-0586

Deputies with the Gage County Sheriff’s Office, working with the Wymore Police Department and probation officers from the State of Nebraska arrested a 48-year-old Wymore resident on violation of the sex offender registry act.  Derek V. Arnold was arrested and booked into the Gage County Detention Center in Beatrice.

On February 1, 2016 a 13-year-old juvenile female reported to the Wymore Police Department that an unidentified white male in a red sport utility vehicle asked her to get into his vehicle by offering her a ride.  The Gage County Sheriff’s Office was also notified of the incident.   The juvenile female was able to later identify the male to the Wymore Police Department.

A probation officer with the State of Nebraska also notified the Gage County Sheriff’s Office that a person on probation in Wymore was also a registered sex offender and he matched the description of the suspect identified by the juvenile female in Wymore.

Deputies from the Gage County Sheriff’s Office contacted the probation officer and the similarities between this incident and the incident resulting in the conviction of the sex offender were noted.  At this time it appeared there were several probation violations as well as possible criminal violations.

Gage County Sheriff Millard “Gus” Gustafson ordered an investigation into possible violations of the sex offender registration act and on February 8, 2016, Derek V. Arnold was arrested by deputies from the Gage County Sheriff’s Office, and an officer from the Wymore Police Department, for violation of the sex offender registration act/failing to notify the Gage County Sheriff’s Office of vehicles he owned or operated.

The case is being investigated for possible additional violations.
