Warrant Arrest Scam

DATE & TIME: 07-03-2018 @ 1515

LOCATION: Wymore, Nebraska

OFFENSE: Warrant Arrest Scam

CASE #: 2018-3339

A Wymore resident notified a Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigator that he had received a phone call from 209-389-8190 with the caller leaving a message that he had an active arrest warrant. The resident called the number back and told the suspect he wanted to “take care of” the warrant. The suspect asked him for his name and the Wymore resident asked why the suspect would not know his name, since he had just called him. The suspect hung up after that. The victim is not out any money, he was, however, advised to check his mail, finances, and credit to check for any possible fraudulent activity.

The Wymore Police Department was notified of the call to the sheriff’s office for their records.

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office urges residents to be wary of people who state they have warrants and need to pay money over the phone, demand payment in non-traditional methods, such as using gift cards to pay off fines, or encourage secrecy. Concerned citizens should speak with family members, trusted friends, or banking officials. Residents should contact their local police department if they have suffered any financial loss. Residents can also call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak with an investigator.
