Warrant Arrest-Violation of the Sex Offender Registration Act

OFFENSE: Warrant Arrest- Violation of the Sex Offender Registration Act

Michael Leon Bennett, age 57, was arrested by an investigator from the Gage County Sheriff’s Office in the lobby of the sheriff’s office on a warrant for failure to verify / register in accordance with the Nebraska Sex Offender Registration Act.

On 09-01-2017, a Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigator was notified by the Nebraska State Patrol Sex Offender Registration Unit that two people, one of which was Michael Leon Bennett, had failed to verify their sex offender registration information during the month of August 2017. The Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigator completed a review of the files, conducted an investigation and forwarded an affidavit for arrest warrant for the two individuals to the Gage County Attorney’s Office.

An arrest warrant was issued for Michael Leon Bennett on 09-25-2017. Bennet called the sheriff’s office on 09-26-2017 and after speaking with an investigator, came to the sheriff’s office and surrendered on the warrant.

An arrest warrant is still active for the other registered sex offender and deputies and investigators will follow-up with attempting to locate him.
