OFFENSE: Warrant “Phishing” Scam
CASE #: 2021-1154
A Beatrice resident called the Gage County Sheriff’s Office to report he had received a phone call with an automated message telling him to call a phone number (720-316-4641) or a warrant would be issued and mentioning “media and law enforcement would become involved”.
The victim states he was immediately aware it was a scam and did not contact the suspect and has not lost any money.
This appears to be a “phishing” expedition, where the victim calls the suspect back and either provides personal information that leads to becoming a victim of fraud, or they send money to the suspect to avoid a warrant or some other type of mulct, as well as avoiding a perceived public shaming with media coverage of the incident.
If you receive this type of contact, do not respond to the number provided by the suspects, call 402-223-4080 and ask to speak to the police department, if you live in Beatrice or Wymore, or call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office at 402-223-5222 and ask to speak with an investigator. Do not provide any personal, confidential, financial or other identifying information to the suspect.
