DATE & TIME: 08-03-2020 / 17:38

LOCATION:  Blue Springs, Nebraska

OFFENSE:  Warrant Scam

CASE #:  2020-3535

A resident of Blue Springs, Nebraska reported to a sheriff’s office investigator that he had received an automated phone message stating he had a warrant for his arrest and to call back to speak with an operator. When the victim called back, he was asked for his name and social security number. When asked for his social security number, he realized it was a scam and told them he would not provide it.  The suspect then hung up on him.

The victim has not lost any money and did not provide any confidential information that could lead to further problems, particularly identity theft. He was advised to check with his bank to have them monitor his accounts.

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office cautions residents that providing personal, confidential, or financial information to unknown persons, whether on the phone, via mail, online, or in person, could make them susceptible to fraud.

If you believe you have been the victim of a fraud, contact your local police department or call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak with an investigator.
