Attempted Fraud or Scam

A resident in Adams called the Gage County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, 03-24-2017, stating she had received a telephone call from a number with a 402 area code and the person asked if she could hear her.  She stated she said “Yes”, but immediately recognized this as an act in which a person or group attempts to scam a person by getting them to say yes.  The person’s conversation is recorded and the “Yes” phrase is spliced into a recorded agreement in which the suspect then charges the victim for goods or services they do not really want.

The Adams resident stated she did not give out any personal or financial information, but is concerned about being the victim of this type of fraud.  She was advised to monitor her mail and finances and to call the sheriff’s office back with any additional information.
