Attempted Theft By Deception

OFFENSE: Attempted Theft By Deception

A resident of Beatrice called the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and spoke with an investigator on the morning of Wednesday, May 25, 2022 to report an attempted theft from his banking account.  He stated he was checking his finances online at about 4:25 am when he noticed a pending charge of $280.00 on his account from the Internet provider.  He stated he is working with his bank to have the charge cancelled and does not believe he will lose any money.  The investigator advised him to work with his bank on this and to check for other potential fraudulent charges.

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office urges residents to be vigilant about their finances, work with their financial institutions, and communicate with friends, family, and professionals with fiduciary responsibilities.

If you believe you are being defrauded, remain calm, contact someone you trust, such as a family member, close friend, financial advisor, or law enforcement.  Do not submit to demands for secrecy or make any type of unusual payments, such as purchasing gift cards to settle an alleged debt.
