A resident of rural Liberty, Nebraska had several financial institutions contact him regarding someone attempting to open accounts using his name and information. The victim was able to get those accounts stopped, then came to Beatrice and consulted with his banks to protect his assets. The banks recommended he contact the Gage County Sheriff’s Office to file a report for criminal impersonation, commonly known as identity theft.

The deputy determined the victim had not suffered any monetary loss and was taking appropriate steps to protect his finances. The investigating deputy also referred him to the Gage County Sheriff’s Office webpage ( https://gagecountysheriff.us/ ) where additional resources for fraud prevention can be found.
