Upcoming Eclipse Event Week

DATE & TIME:       August 8, 2017

LOCATION:           Gage County

EVENT:                Upcoming Eclipse Event week

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind the motoring public and pedestrians attending the Eclipse events in Gage County to be mindful and alert of the high volume of motor vehicle and foot traffic in the area. For those individuals attending events at the Homestead National Monument of America, people are encouraged to utilize the shuttle systems in place that will run regularly between the Gage County Fairgrounds and the Homestead (see the Chamber and Homestead websites for more information).  Traffic congestion and delays are to be expected in many, if not most areas throughout the County.  Motorists are also encouraged to leave early, reduce driving speeds, watch for pedestrians, drive defensively and pay extra attention at blind intersections and other areas that may pose a danger.  Remember that many county road intersections are unmarked meaning no posted traffic control signs such as a stop sign or yield.  Please be respectful of property owners when attending events or parking in these areas.  Please read Nebraska Revised statute 60-6,166 below which covers parking restrictions, etc. on roadways, etc.  Also keep in mind that much of Gage County is a rural area and that the roadways are shared with vehicles and equipment associated with farm husbandry and that these vehicles and equipment are traveling at a reduced speed and are generally wider in width than normal motor vehicles.  Use of SMV placards and safety lighting is encouraged as well on all farm machinery.

The Sheriff’s Office will have extra deputies on patrol during the week of the Eclipse. All traffic laws as well as other calls for service, etc. will be monitored and enforced as normal.  People who need to report incidents are reminded to call 402-223-5221 to Southeast Communications who in turn will dispatch a deputy as needed.  If call volume becomes high, calls will be responded to on a priority basis.  Your patience is appreciated regarding this and all things surrounding the Eclipse.

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office would like to wish all the local communities, residents and visitors attending the events safe and successful week.

Sincerely,

Doug Klaus

Chief Deputy Sheriff

Gage County Sheriff’s Office
