Failure to Register as a Sex Offender

DATE & TIME: 08-16-2019 @ 11:25 am

LOCATION: 410 North 4th Street, Beatrice

OFFENSE: Failure to Register as a Sex Offender

CASE #: 2019-4381

Investigators at the Gage County Sheriff’s Office discovered a registered sex offender had moved from Connecticut to 410 North 4th Street in Beatrice on August 9, 2019. The subject, 38-year-old David Scott McKeon, had met a girl online and stated he flew from Hartford, Connecticut to Lincoln, then moved to Beatrice on August 9th. McKeon failed to register with the Nebraska State Patrol as required, and had skipped appointments for the required registration.

A sheriff’s office investigator contacted investigators and school resource officers for the Beatrice Police Department to make them aware of the situation, since McKeon was living close to Beatrice Middle School. After a coordinated investigation involving Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigators, special services deputies, Beatrice Police Department investigators and school resource officers, as well the Nebraska State Patrol Sex Offender Registration Unit staff, Sheriff Gustafson determined McKeon should be arrested as soon as practical, for the safety of the public and students at the Beatrice Middle School.

McKeon was arrested without incident at his residence on Friday, August 16, 2019 at approximately 11:25 am. He was transported to the Gage County Detention Center and turned over to corrections officers for booking. Charges for violation of the Beatrice local ordinance on residency restrictions for sex offenders are being referred to the Beatrice police department/city attorney’s office.
